LAST DAY

Reflect on the last 2 weeks

1. These past few weeks have been great. This intersession was really hard and fun, at first I thought that it wasn’t going to be that fun but once we really got into it like doing really hard math and cutting and painting all though that the painting took really long and it hurt our backs because we had to bend down to paint the wood and also it was very hot and we were sweating like crazy. I couldn’t believe how the gaga pit came out as the final product it looks great and I was surprised how that the gaga pit is really tall I thought it was going to be shorter so I can actually see over with out being on the ledges on the wood. We worked really hard on the on the gaga pit and it looks great. What we did today was that we finished the corn holes and we learned how to sew and then we filled the corn hole bag with corn and sewed them up. Also what we did was before lunch and between lunch we played gaga in “THE PIT” and during lunch people would jump in on the walls and there would be too much people and it would get dangerous and then at the end we had someone pick out the people and referee the game so people wouldn’t cheat and then the game would be a lot better than people cheating.

HW #6

If you had 27 2"x4" pieces of wood what is total width and height?

1. Width=54 Height=108

What was the biggest challenge you faced today while you were working? What steps did you take to defeat your challenge?

2. The challenge that I faced today was putting the plywood onto the other pieces of wood because sometimes the wood would be to short on one side and the other side be perfect and so we had to cut off the piece that was bad and then put it back on the other pieces of wood. Then what we did to fix that was that we borrowed a saw from the janitors and then chopped of the piece that was bad.

What is your work plan tomorrow?

3. My work plan tomorrow is that to finish touching up the yellow color of the plywood hopefully finishing the gaga pit!!!!!

HW #5

What were some of your problems today? How did you overcome them?

1. One of the problems today was that the screw kept on slipping out of the drill bit and falling and that was a big problem.

Explain your favorite part of today?

2. My favorite part of this today was the building that was really fun and we are almost done with the gaga pit we need to put the big plywood up on the wood and a few more pieces of wood on top of the plywood and then we are done. This intersession is very fun.

March 7th- HW #4

Explain one challenge that you faced and how you overcame it this week?

1. The challenge that I faced this week was the painting I had a very hard time on it because the huge plywood was going to be painted yellow and so the yellow is very light so we had to do like 3 coats of yellow and it took very long and I had a very hard time because I had to keep on standing up straight because my back hurt because of bending down so much.

What accomplishments are you proud of from this past week? And why are you proud of them?

2. I am most proud of the painting we finally finished and it took a long time to finish the plywood because it was huge. I am most proud of this goal because now we can build and the wood looks really good and we did a very good job on the painting.

What is your next step in your process to completing your project? How will you get there?

3. The next step in completing the project is to build the Gaga pit. How we will get there is that we will have all of our crews work on a side of the gaga pit and we will all put it together.

HW # 3 and March 5

These past three days have been great. I am so glad I got into this intersession it was my first choice. This intersession is really fun. What we have accomplished in these three days is we learned how to use a handsaw and how to use a mitre saw. Today what we did was use a mitre saw to cut all of opur wood. The math is very tough and confusing. But that is what carpentry is all about. The safety is really important when it comes to using mitre saws, there is a lot of safety involved. Everyday we have to go through safety rules and they are very important and you have to listen or else you won’t be able to use the tools that we learned the safety. All of the stuff we have done has been very fun and I’ve loved everything we’ve done so far.

March 4th second day

What we did today is we learned what a protractor does and we practiced cutting and making angles on a really bad pieces of wood and we learned how to be exact on a protractor. That was the hardest part of the day because it was hard to draw the angle. Mr. Shulman gave us angles to draw and then we had to cut them once we had them perfect and Mr. Shulman, Mr. Anthony, or Mr. Clay had to check your angles. Besides that cutting was sort of a challenge for me because it was very hard it needs a, a lot of strength.

HW #2

1. When measuring your lumber this morning, what came up and what did you notice that make cutting difficult in the future?
We had to measure twice, cut once is what came up and we had to do it because it is important to measure twice, cut once. Also just in case we did a wrong measurement.

2. If you had to teach someone how to use a hand saw what would you say, be specific for safety reasons?

I would say don’t put your hand too close to the saw because then you might cut off our fingers and also always where goggles when someone is cutting near you.

3. What is the magic number we repeated 10 times and why is it important to remember?

The magic number is 67.5 because it is the angle we are using for the gaga pit.
